Rob Sas Guitar

Rob Sas – Guitar

Rob took up guitar in the mid 1970’s and before long had formed his first band Killerhurtz, playing mostly original songs, often supporting bands like The Groundhogs, The Nashville Teens and other rock bands of the time at venues in and around west London. Rob split that band up after a few years but returned to live playing after concentrating on his recording studio projects for a while which in 1999, gave birth to what would eventually be re-named Bad Matrix in 2025, a commercial rock project in which Warner-Chappell took a keen interest, until the recession of the early 1990’s. The record company cut their new band roster, the band folded and so Rob immediately formed Burn, a Classic Rock covers band that played all over the UK for 20 years, touring Denmark twice during that time. Upon moving to south Spain in 2012, Rob formed The Rob Sas Band playing Classic Rock cover songs and two years later, he formed Deeper Purple, an international tribute to the music of Deep Purple. In 2023, Rob re-ignited the Bad Matrix project.

Rob is a veteran of the live music scene with decades of experience and has worked all over Europe with a plethora of well known name musicians. He was a member of The John Coghlan Band for three years, headed by the legendary ex Status Quo drummer and he was also in Quatermas 2 headed by the equally legendary drummer, the late Mick Underwood. In addition Rob has worked with many names such as Nic Simper (Deep Purple), Gary Barden (Michael Schenker), Mick Tucker (The Sweet), Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) and Doogie White, to name just a few.

Phil Crombie Bass

Phil Crombie – Bass

Phil has been surrounded by music from a very young age and learnt piano, ‘cello and classical guitar throughout his school years. Classical music didn’t really hit the spot with Phil, whereas rock music did. Bass guitar seemed the obvious choice – and at the age of 16 Phil was playing with local band Aunt Lucy, playing a mixture of rock covers and original music.

Phil has played in a number of local bands over the years – one of which, The Workhouse, continues to be an ongoing writing, recording and performance project. Phil has always been interested in sound engineering and producing and has been recording and mixing songs for over 35 years – starting out using the original version of Cubase on a 64mb computer synced to a 1 inch tape machine.

Phil has been the bass player for Deeper Purple a European tribute band to Deep Purple for the last 10 years. As well as playing the bass, Phil is responsible for all of their recording and video projects. Phil has also arranged and recorded a number of classical pieces for bass guitar, which can be seen on his YouTube channel “Phil Crombie Bass Guitar”. Phil uses Fender Custom Shop bass guitars, Ernie Ball strings and Mesa Boogie amplification. Phil lives in the UK, near Epping in Essex with his wife Andrea, children Lara, Violet and Dylan and their cat Angus. Phil balances family life with music, SCUBA diving, mountain biking and running.

As well as his love for the drums, Paul is also a multi instrumentalist, songwriter and composer and has released various solo albums as well as contributing material to jazz and prog ensemble groups Sanguine Hum and Supervoc.
